Legislative Update -- March 3, 2009

Thank you for taking the time to visit my new website. Your continued interest and support is essential in maintaining a transparent and accountable government that works for you, the hardworking people of Colorado.

Just yesterday, I introduced a bill in the House that extends the period for which state income tax return forms shall include a line whereby individual taxpayers may make a voluntary contribution to the nongame and endangered wildlife fund. This bill, HB09-1294, has been assigned to the Finance Committee.

A few of the other bills I am currently sponsoring include:

  • HB09-1040: Directs the state auditor to submit an annual report to the local government committees of the house of representatives and the senate on any legislation enacted in that year that imposes unfunded mandates on local governments.
  • HB09-1119: Will establish rural alcohol and substance abuse grant programs in the alcohol and drug abuse division of Health and Human Services. This is a bill that will provide grants to entities that provide alcohol and substance abuse treatment and services in rural areas, or that provide activities for youths in rural areas designed to reduce the use of alcohol and drugs. As of today, this bill is pending a report from the Committee of Appropriations.

I hope you will keep checking back often for pictures, upcoming events, and updates on current legislation. Keep your comments and questions coming! It is very important for me to learn about the issues that matter to you, which is why I also encourage you to fill out the Issues Survey section of my website.

Enjoy this wonderful spring weather and thank you again!
