State Representative Edward Vigil (D) was elected to the Colorado House of Representatives in 2008, representing House District 62. For the 2009 legislative session, he served as a member of the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee and the House Local Government Committee.
Representative Vigil graduated Adams State College, in Alamosa, with a degree in Business Administration and Sociology. He has served as the Costilla County commissioner, an investigator for the 12th Judicial District DA's office, and as a Detox Specialist and outpatient substance abuse counselor for the San Luis Valley Mental Health Center.
A sixth generation native, Representative Vigil was born and raised in San Pablo near San Luis, Colorado. He currently owns Sangre de Cristo Laboratory with his wife, Evelyn.
Rep. Vigil's deep roots in the San Luis Valley and his varied career in public service, law enforcement, and healthcare gave him a unique perspective on the challenges facing rural Colorado communities. His work as a substance abuse counselor informed his legislative push for expanded treatment access in underserved areas, while his experience as a county commissioner grounded his approach to local government accountability.
